There are a number of incredible benefits to using Twitter, but the biggest benefits are experienced by businesses both small and large. It is a known fact that a business that uses Twitter, for the purpose of both releasing pertinent information to the public and communicating with current customers, will experience an amazing amount of success, as a result.  In fact, it is safe to say that people simply prefer to deal with a small or medium sized business that they can follow on a social media network such as Twitter.  The likelihood of these customers referring the business to friends increases exponentially, as well. The following are a few important tips for a business wanting to use Twitter for marketing purposes.

Presence is Everything

A professional appearance is everything when dealing with a social media network such as Twitter.  This is where the Twitter profile comes in extremely handy.  A profile can be made to look as personal or business-like as is needed.  For a business, there is no question as to how professional a profile should appear.

There are a few specific things that should be included in a Twitter account profile (business or otherwise).  The most important thing is a detailed description of the products or services offered by the business.  This is where potential customers will turn when deciding whether, or not, to consider using the services, and/or products, provided by the business.

The second most important thing is a link to any information, about the business, that can be obtained outside of Twitter.  A business website would be a prime example of an appropriate URL link to include in a business Twitter profile.

Become Familiar with Tweeting

For many, the ability to tweet is simply used in the wrong way.  Tweeting is the first point of contact between a business and its followers.  It is, therefore, important that a tweet be thought through thoroughly prior to it being sent.

Relevant information could include additions to a business or important changes that have taken place.  The important thing to keep in mind is that all tweets should include information that a follower will find important and worthy of their time.  Followers can be lost much quicker than they were gained.

Remember that you aren’t the only person tweeting.  Customers frequently respond to tweets and many even re-tweet them from time to time.  It is very important that you do the same.  Be as determined to notice each customer comment as you are to send out original tweets in the first place.

How to Gain Followers

This leads us to the next tip being the importance of increasing the number of people following you.  Many would say that this step is even more important than understanding the usefulness of a tweet, and they might just be right.  However, it is also important to remember that they go hand in hand.

The best way to gain followers is by following people first.  Remember that we are referring to both businesses, as well as individuals with Twitter accounts.  Following businesses is a great way to network, while following individuals is a great way to get potential customers following you.  Either way, increasing your following is the best way to increase your reach within the community.
